Teach your dog to sit on a cue

Dog trainer Lina shows you how to teach your dog to sit. Sitting can be useful in many different situations and in the videos Lina shows you how to get a dog to sit until it is given the okay to change position. This is beneficial when you want to teach steadiness to the behaviour and get a dog that stays in a sitting position right from the start.

Dogs learn most easily through our body language, so we start teaching the sit with a hand signal, which is then removed and replaced with the verbal signal you want to use. Remember! When you add in your verbal cue, it is important that it comes before the arm movement so that the dog has a chance to register its new cue. Gradually work your way up to less arm movement until your dog finally sits on your verbal cue alone.
