Environmental training for your puppy
Remember, never force your puppy into an encounter or environment – this will have the opposite effect and create lasting bad memories that are hard to unlearn. Instead, ensure your puppy has the choice to walk away if needed. Start with easy environments and gradually work closer to what seems to be challenging for your puppy.
Adapt the training to what your puppy is already used to and comfortable with. A puppy living in the countryside might find a busy town centre overwhelming, while a town-dwelling puppy might find the quiet countryside or woods unsettling.
Feel free to take your puppy into various dog-friendly shops and let them explore all the interesting smells. Visit the vet's practice and let them have some treats in the waiting room. Perhaps they can say hello to the receptionist or a nurse, who might even give their teeth a quick look, followed by a reward. This will make future veterinary visits much easier for your dog.
