Dog-Friendly Gingerbread Biscuits
Traditional gingerbread contains spices that can upset a dog’s stomach, so it’s not something dogs should eat. But that doesn’t mean your dog has to miss out on the festive fun.
To help your dog join in the Christmas cheer, here are two simple, dog-friendly gingerbread-style biscuit recipes — one that’s hard and crunchy, and one that’s soft.

Hard Gingerbread Biscuits for Dogs
Ingredients
375g wholemeal flour
100g rolled oats
100g wheat germ
50ml vegetable oil
85g grated cheese
300ml meat broth (low salt, onion-free)
Instructions
Gently heat the broth and mix it with the rolled oats and oil. Let it stand for 5 minutes.
Add the wheat germ and grated cheese. Mix well.
Add the flour a little at a time and work into a firm dough.
Roll out the dough to about 1cm thickness and cut out shapes using cookie cutters or a glass.
Bake at 175°C for about 50 minutes.
Turn off the oven and leave the biscuits inside overnight to dry and harden completely.
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
Soft Gingerbread Biscuits for Dogs
Ingredients
1 grated carrot or apple
500g buckwheat flour
100g xylitol-free peanut butter
approx. 200ml water
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 160°C fan assisted.
Grate the carrot or apple.
Mix all ingredients together, adding water gradually until you get a soft dough.
Roll out the dough and cut out biscuits using a cookie cutter of your choice.
Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Bake for 20–25 minutes – this keeps them lovely and soft.
Leave to cool completely.
Ready for your dog to enjoy!
