Can I leave my cat home alone?

Cats usually don’t need as much attention as dogs, but they still need daily stimulation, social contact, and company. You should check on your adult cat at least twice a day – give them cuddles and attention, fresh food and water, and some playtime to keep them active.Never leave a sick or pregnant cat alone for long, for obvious reasons. Even though cats are more independent, they’re still social animals and don’t do well if they’re left on their own too much. If your cat is allowed outdoors, this is extra important – especially if you live in an area with lots of wildlife.

Can I leave my kitten home alone?

A young kitten shouldn’t be left alone at first. They’re still too small and can easily get into trouble when no one is watching. When you get a kitten, it’s best to make sure someone is at home with them during the initial period.Once your kitten is a bit older and feels safe and settled in their new home, you can start leaving them alone for slightly longer periods. As your cat grows, you’ll also notice from their personality how much alone time they need or want – every cat is different and has its own needs.

Things to consider before leaving your cat alone

If you’re going to leave your cat home alone for a longer time, it’s important that their home environment is stimulating and safe. Make sure there are plenty of cosy sleeping spots, a scratching post, fun toys like this activity board and, ideally, somewhere they can climb. This is especially important for indoor cats who spend all their time inside, but even outdoor cats need a home environment where they feel happy and relaxed when they return.
