Devon Rex Personality
Devon Rex cats are social, lively, and affectionate. They often form strong bonds with their owners and thrive on company, whether it's with people or other pets. They love to play and need plenty of stimulation, so keep them entertained! They also adore warmth and prefer being indoors, which helps protect their delicate skin from the sun.
Devon Rex Appearance and Coat Care
The Devon Rex is a slender, medium-sized, muscular cat with distinctive curly or wavy fur and a 'scrunchy' face. Their coat is almost entirely soft undercoat, meaning they shed very little – great news for allergy sufferers! Brush their coat gently once a week to minimise shedding and keep it healthy. Be extra careful when brushing as their coat is very delicate. A softgrooming mitt.
Devon Rex Health
Devon Rex cats are generally healthy, but like all breeds, they can be susceptible to certain genetic conditions. 'Radiation rot' can affect their ears, causing oily deposits on the skin and itching. Another condition, hypotrichosis, results in hair loss on parts of the body.
Dental Health
Did you know brushing your cat's teeth daily is key to preventing gum disease? Learn more about dental care in our app. Periodontal disease, often linked with FORL (Feline odontoclastic resorptive lesions), is common in cats. While it can be tricky, with patience and tasty rewards, your cat can learn to tolerate toothbrushing. Our app has a course to guide you!
Poisoning Risks
Many common household items can be toxic to cats. Plants are a frequent culprit – check our app to see which ones are poisonous. Other dangers include chocolate and rodent poison. Always store anything hazardous where your cat absolutely cannot reach it.
