Cat naps
Cats need a lot of sleep and undisturbed rest. It's common for adult cats to sleep between 12-19 hours a day. Kittens need even more, up to 20 hours a day. So, it's perfectly normal if your cat seems to sleep most of the day!
Sleep is vital for cats. It allows their bodies to rest and their brains to process their experiences from the day. Exactly how much a cat sleeps and needs to sleep depends on several factors. Age, activity levels, and your cat's individual personality all play a part in determining their sleep needs.
When your cat is sleeping, it’s important not to disturb them. This applies to both adult cats and kittens. A household rule should be that when the cat is sleeping, they are left alone. They shouldn’t be petted or woken up to be played with. It’s important that everyone in the family, adults and children alike, understands and follows this rule.
Does your cat love to play at night? This is because cats are naturally nocturnal, meaning they instinctively sleep during the day and are more active at night. This can be a bit challenging, especially if your cat's nighttime antics disturb your sleep. Your cat needs to adjust to your household's schedule, where you sleep at night and are active during the day. Make it a habit to play a lot with your cat during the day and just before bedtime. This will increase the chances of your cat wanting to sleep at night too!
