Cat urination problems: Signs to look out for
Urination problems are common in cats, and there are various symptoms that indicate your feline friend is having trouble. The causes behind these issues can range from simple to severe, and sometimes they can even be life-threatening. That's why it's so important for cat owners to recognise the common signs.
Here are some common symptoms of urination problems to be aware of:
Your cat licks its urinary opening frequently
The cat urinates often, but only in small amounts (frequent small puddles)
Straining to urinate for long periods, with little or no urine produced
Blood in the urine
Your cat's urine has a stronger or more unusual smell
The cat urinates outside the litter box (though this can have other causes too)
Apparent pain or discomfort when urinating
If your cat shows any of these symptoms, please take them to the vet for a check-up. Some signs can indicate a serious, even life-threatening, condition. If your cat is straining to urinate and nothing is coming out, or only a tiny amount, seek veterinary attention urgently!
