Playing with bigger dogs

As a puppy owner, it's really common for your little one to meet other dogs, including bigger, older ones. It’s important for your puppy's socialisation to get to know and play with other dogs. However, rough play between a small puppy and a larger dog can carry a risk of injury. Keep a close eye on your puppy whenever they're playing with a bigger dog. Let them play in moderation and always supervise to reduce the risk of them getting hurt.

Always supervise when your dog is greeting or playing with other dogs, no matter their size. Accidents can happen in a flash!

Keep these pointers in mind when your puppy's meeting an older dog!

  • Always ask the other owner if their dog is friendly towards puppies.

  • Ask if the other dog is up-to-date with their vaccinations.

  • Be gentle and don't force your puppy if they seem unsure about meeting the other dog.

  • Crouch nearby so your puppy can easily come to you if they feel scared.

  • Don't let your puppy greet a dog that seems aggressive.
